Beaches with blue flags and endless
possibilities
The region of El Vendrell runs from the sea to the
mountain. The beaches of Coma-ruga, San Salvador and El Francàs,
which are located 3.5 km. from the town, make up one of the main
attractions of the municipality. A coast of 7 km. welcomes you.
The beaches are wide and long along the Mediterranean.
To the peacefulness, the clarity and comfortable temperature of
the sea, one must add the high iodine content that the waters from
this corner of the Costa Dorada contain, something that is particularly
healthy. The long ago use of thermal and therapeutic facilities
is proof of the curing powers of these waters.
Since 1987 the beaches of El Vendrell (Coma-ruga,
San Salvador and El Francàs) are distinguished by the BLUE
FLAG, an honor given by the FEEE (Foundation for Environmental
Education in Europe) to the beaches possessing an excellent level
in different aspects such as terrain cleanliness, the sanitation
of the sea water, the services, etc., and have often been considered
among the best in Cataluña, according to popular surveys
carried out by different means of communication. El Vendrell and
its beaches offer an exceptional place to enjoy the sun and the
beach, practice water sports and make tourist visits both within
and outside of the municipality.
Also worthy of mention is the Masía
Blanca Marine Reserve .
This zone is a typical sandy beach submerged biome with a slight slope.
The physiography and the flora that protect it are representative in
many ways of more than half of the Catalan coast.
Here there are also pebbles, grasslands (posidonia) and “grapissars” of
great biological wealth that act as regenerators of the places close
by. The goal of the Masía Blanca “Grapissar” is to
preserve and improve the ecosystem and control the marine resources of
our region.
